How to use ScamSense

Four steps, and what each answer means.

Checking something

  1. Choose "A message" or "A link".

  2. Paste what you received into the box.

  3. Press "Check it".

  4. Read the answer and the reasons under it.

Switch language with EN / BM at the top of the page.

What each answer means

  • Likely a scam

Do not open it, do not reply, and do not send money.

  • Not certain

Contact the company yourself, using a phone number or app you already have, not one from the message.

  • No warning signs

This is not a guarantee. If you were not expecting it, stay careful.

  • Verified address

The address really belongs to that company. We checked the address, not the page.

  • Could not check

We could not finish checking. Try again in a moment, and be careful until then.

A habit worth learning: read the address

Look at the part just before the first single slash (/). That is where the link really goes. Scam links copy the name, but never the real address.

the real Maybank address

https://www.maybank2u.com.my/home/login

  • Who owns this address. This is the part to check.

NOT Maybank. It goes to secure-verify.xyz

https://maybank2u.com.my.secure-verify.xyz/login

  • A copied name. Anyone can put this here.
  • Who owns this address. This is the part to check.

Tell us if we got it wrong

Under every answer there is a "Was this helpful?" section. Every report is read by a person before anything changes.

If you have already lost money

  1. Call your bank now. Use the number on the back of your card, not one from any message.

  2. Call the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997. Open daily, 8am to 8pm.

  3. Check and report the account or phone number at Semak Mule: semakmule.rmp.gov.my

Act quickly. Money can sometimes be stopped in the first few hours.
